Scuba diving in Figueira da Foz

The local dive school in Figueira da Foz caters for all levels of diver: from absolute beginner to PADI certified divers. Total beginners can learn to dive with a basic PADI course that takes one week. Lessons begin in the local swimming pool to get used to the scuba equipment before you’re let loose in the river and sea. The local diving school also offers advanced dive courses, including night dives and deeper water dives for those who already have their basic PADI certification. The cost of the beginners dive course is €350; the advanced dive course costs €240.

Experienced divers who wish to undertake a dive either at Cabo Mondego, the reef-covered headland at the North end of Figueira beach; or Leirosa open water wreck dive three miles out to sea, can book a trip (including dive belt and oxygen bottle) for €20 and €25 respectively.

All equipment can be hired from the dive school, prices start at €5.

If you’re planning to undertake any diving during your stay in Portugal please ensure you bring a Doctor’s note certifying that you are medically fit to dive; alternatively you can choose to take your medical examination at the hospital in Figueira da Foz for a cost of €30.
