Guided Walking Tours around Figueira da Foz
As of 2009 Figueira Turismo has offered guided walking tours around Figueira da Foz; there are three routes, which take you around some of the diverse landscapes found in this area:
Tour of the Salt Marshes:
Duration- 2h30mins
Distance- 4km
Difficulty- easy
Described by the tour guide as ‘a short and pleasant route through the flat landscape of the salt marshes.’ Things you’ll see on your walk include: the Salt Museological Centre; extensive pisciculture farms, the Pranto River and Mondego River.
Tour of Maiorca:
Duration- 3h
Distance- 7km
Difficulty- easy
The route is described as a walk through the ‘fresh and flat landscape of the paddy-fields.’ You’ll take in the Palace of Maiorca; fields of the Mondego River, Foja River and Royal Canal.
Tour of Boa Viagem:
Duration- 3h
Distance- 6k
Difficulty- medium to hard
A beautiful route, and the most challenging of the three, across the uneven grounds of the ‘mountain’ at the North end of Figueira and around the headland. You’ll be crossing a path scattered with fossils and you’ll take in the sights of Quiaios and Murtinheira beaches, which are unspoilt and beautiful, as well as the tree-filled Dolmen Valley, Cape Mondego and the Santa Marinha Fountain.
All walks can be booked at Figueira Tourist Office on the seafront, participants must sign up at least three hours before the walks, which depart at 9.30am, 10.30am and 2pm daily. Price per person, per tour is €12 with discounts for under 12’s and senior citizens.
