Cafe-Hopping in Figueira da Foz

One of the best ways to while away a morning or afternoon in the town is cafe-hopping, with an espresso costing just €0.50, and quick snacks like cheese and ham toasties (tosta mistas) available for €1.50, you can eat and drink your fill while sitting in the sunshine and watching the world go by. Some of my favourite spots are:

  • Skipper’s Bar: Located just outside the marina, by the harbour, sit outside the cafe and watch the boats come in to moor.
  • Perola da Figueira (close to the news stand): Extremely cheap, friendly service and a real sun trap between 11am and 3pm.
  • Bolo de Neve: Closest to Foz Holidays with a great view of the square, fountain and the hustle and bustle of people going about their every day business. If you’re sensitive to the sun, then this cafe is your best bet as it provides large umbrellas.
  • Oasis: Literally a man-made Oasis located on the beach, surrounded by a mini lake, palm trees, bird nesting areas and wooden walkways that lead up to the cafe/restaurant. This wooden building has a large outside area, where you can sit sipping your coffee surrounded by the beauty of the Oasis whilst gazing out to the Atlantic Ocean.
  • Costa: Needs a mention as the most picturesque location of all of the cafes in Figueira da Foz. You’ll find this unassuming orange cafe on the seafront after Buarcos as you walk towards Cabo Mondego. Sit outside and you’ll be stunned by the beautiful views of the sea, it feels like you’re sitting, drinking coffee in the middle of the ocean!
There are too many great cafes to mention them all here. It’s safe to say that you’re assured of some great Portuguese coffee at a very reasonable price wherever you go in Figueira da Foz.
